MALLORCA, SPAIN | JUNE 3-9, 2018 | WITH TY LANDRUM

Our lives unfold within a dream. And this dream, samsara, captures the whole of our experience. All that we see and touch is part of the dream, including our breath, our pulse, our skin. In this special Balearic retreat, we consider Ashtanga Vinyasa as an instrument for exploring the dream, in lucid wonder, with the full participation of the body. We use some techniques from the Hatha Yoga tradition to bring the practice alive—balancing internal patterns of sensation, following internal movements of breath, and softening ever more deeply into the forms themselves. Through these techniques, we settle our minds, open our senses, release our essentialist projections, and rediscover what Ashtanga Vinyasa was meant to be, a method of exploring the sublime nature of embodied experience. More information available here.

SALENTO, ITALY | JUNE 30 – JULY 7, 2018 |WITH TY LANDRUM

The Dance of Siva is one of the crowing jewels of Tantric iconography.  More than an enchanting image, it contains the whole Tantric teaching about the nature of the mind.  In this retreat, we study the dance as an allegory of gestures that symbolize the natural unfolding of conscious experience, from the early formation of thought to the moment of dissolution that graces us with the opportunity for insight.  Using the symbology of the dance, we uncover the role of Ashtanga Vinyasa in cultivating the kind of consciousness that allows for the possibility of true insight. We learn to use breath, bandha and postural alignment to support the unfolding of revelatory experience, and we follow the thread with chanting, pranayama and meditation. Through these explorations, we reconnect to the contemplative essence of the practice, and we rediscover our own experience as part of Siva’s Dance.
